Frequently Asked Questions

What happens on the Conference Floor?

The WA Labor State Conference brings together WA Labor members from across the State to hear from our Members of Parliament, share and debate ideas, and get updates from across our party’s various units and bodies.

The Conference is chaired by our Party President, who facilitates contributions from conference delegates and applies the standing orders.

Delegates can propose amendments and resolutions to the draft Platform which is circulated to delegates one month prior to Conference.

The draft Platform is divided into chapters, which are considered one at a time according to the Conference agenda.

To begin each debate, the relevant Minister will report on the chapter, and the draft Chapter is moved on behalf of the relevant policy committee.

The reports are then followed by discussion over proposed amendments and resolutions to the draft Platform.

After each issue is considered, a vote, if required, then takes place. The outcomes of this process are then incorporated into the Platform draft, which, at the completion of Conference, becomes the official Platform of the WA Labor Party.

As well as debates on the Platform, Conference also hears updates from our State and Federal Labor Governments, and Party Organisations like Young Labor, Country Labor and Party Officials.
